Bidi Bidi Secondary School
Bidi Bidi Secondary School was built in 2016. At the time of construction, Bidi Bidi was the largest refugee camp in the world. Due to the civil war, the people of Pure fled to Uganda from the violence and a majority found refuge in Bidi Bidi. Currently, 145 students are enrolled at Bidi Bidi Secondary, all of whom have earned scholarships for this term! A 100% scholarship is $18.
Bidi Bidi will soon be home to our first girl’s boarding school, which will house up to 100 girls. The boarding school eliminates the young women’s dangerous walk to school and ensures they get an education rather than being forced into becoming a child bride or child mother. You can learn more in our initiatives tab under boarding school!
We began offering merit-based scholarships to our schools in 2018 and by 2024 our students had earned over 10,000 scholarships! Every new student will have their first term tuition and school supplies covered under a scholarship to eliminate any barriers to enrolling in school. From there, the students need to earn their scholarship through their grades. Division 1, equivalent to As in the U.S., receives a 100% scholarship. Division 2, equivalent to Bs, receives a 75% scholarship. Division 3, equivalent to Cs, receives a 50% scholarship.
