Many teachers in South Sudan are not qualified to teach due to the impact of education from generations of war. Teacher certifications are a requirement in South Sudan but are currently not enforced. A Teaching Certification takes three years to complete but can be accomplished between school terms, so teachers can continue to teach at the schools while they obtain their certification. The total cost for one teacher to achieve their certification is $960. We are currently sponsoring one teacher who has one year left until graduation. All sponsored teachers will be required to teach at Pure for five years. Each year, we have an application process for the teachers to get selected to go to school.
